Has there ever been a group so iconic, so influential, and so monumental as this?
It is no overstatement to say they changed the face of music and inspired a generation. Their music is as popular today as it was in their heyday. Icons of a genre, their immeasurable talent lives on through their music, in all its incarnations.
When you think of Queen, an instant image comes to mind; whether it’s the classic diamond configuration of the Bohemian Rhapsody video, the unforgettable I Want To Break Free music video, or simply the legendary figure of Freddie Mercury now immortalised as the symbol of the We Will Rock You musical. Has a band ever been more theatrical, more flamboyant, whilst maintaining such influential Rock ‘n’ Roll power?
Forming in the early ‘70s in London, their illustrious career as a four-piece band spanned two decades, until Mercury’s death in 1991. Throughout that time, they had countless hits, still as revered today, as then. Of their most memorable and abiding, We Are the Champions, Another One Bites the Dust, Somebody To Love, and Killer Queen. Brian May and drummer, Roger Taylor, continue to perform together today, though in the collective mind of everyone who adored Queen it was Mercury who made the group what it was.
Mercury’s flair and flamboyance will forever be the lasting memory in the hearts and minds of Queen fans. There never was, nor will be, a group of this calibre with such a far-reaching impact.
