Oasis’ Be Here Now, which was released on 21st August 1997, was the fastest selling album in British chart history and was the biggest selling album of 1997 in the UK.

It was the high water mark of Oasis’ imperial phase, and has one of the most famous covers of the 1990’s shot by Michael Spencer Jones. Spencer Jones shot all the Oasis covers for albums and singles up to this record. In the days before photoshop, and when record labels had money to throw around, that was a real Rolls Royce in the pool. The shoot for the cover went on all day, and the initial plan was that the cover would be shot at night. But after a day drinking beers by the pool the night shoot became a physical impossibility. According to Spencer Jones, “by 8 pm, everyone was in the bar, there were school-kids all over the set, and the lighting crew couldn’t start the generator. It was Alice in Wonderland meets Apocalypse Now.”

Michael Spencer Jones has been back to the negatives for the 25th anniversary and found a never before seen version of the cover shot from the night shoot, along with some great behind the scenes shots of the day, a solo shot of the Rolls in the pool (itself a homage to the infamous Keith Moon story of rock n roll decadence) and alternative shots of the cover itself.
