Known to the psychedelic generation of the 1980s as ‘King Monkey’, Brown was illustrious as the frontman of the prominent ‘Madchester’ band, The Stone Roses.
Although Brown’s voice has often been critiqued as ‘tone deaf’, the band’s 1989 self-titled debut album was voted best British album of all time in 2004. The album inspired a host of 90s indie bands such as Oasis and the Arctic Monkeys. However, The Stone Roses officially collapsed in 1996 and from then on Brown has released solo material.
