A sexually-charged bolt of rock and roll, known in France as ‘Our Johnny’ and recognised as a national treasure, Johnny Hallyday is renowned for introducing Rock and Roll into France…
Born in Paris in 1943, Johnny grew up inspired by the 1950s Rock and Roll revolution taking influence from the likes of Elvis Presley who he later went on to be compared too as “the French Elvis”. In the early 60s he released his first single, propelling him into the role of a beloved French super-star. 2 years later and Johnny is France’s highest paid musician.
He went on to sell more than 100 million records as well as well as chancing his bets as an actor and worked with France’s revolutionary director Jean-Luc Godard. His popularity was such that he partied with Jimi Hendrix and hung out with rock legends Bob Dylan and Keith Richards. With an astounding endurance in the music industry, Johnny was a fully-fledged French Icon, considered as a major part of French cultural legacy. He is still one of the best-selling artists in the world. He sadly passed away in December 2017.
