Juneteenth, also known as Black Independence Day, is a holiday in the US commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans and so we have put together a gallery featuring some of the most prominent Black figures across the Sonic Editions site. Juneteenth’s commemoration is on the anniversary of the announcement proclaiming freedom for enslaved people in Texas on June 19th 1965.
Our Juneteenth gallery features Black men and women who have all had an enormous impact on the world. Whether they be political leaders fighting racial inequality such as Martin Luther King or Nelson Mandela, multi platinum selling musical artists like Public Enemy, Diana Ross and Jimi Hendrix or athletes breaking the limits and records of human performance like Muhammad Ali, Serena Williams and Jackie Robinson.
